Facilities - Longford Slashers GAA
Longford Slashers is based in Farneyhoogan on the outskirts of Longford Town. The complex and playing fields are on a site of 16 acres which were purchased in two phases.
In 1978, 12 acres (49,000 m2) were purchased and following extensive development work, the first two pitches were opened on 8th. June 1980 – the first competitive game was a Leader Cup match V Ardagh. The Club grounds, Clubhouse and other facilities were officially opened by the then President of Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Padraic McFlynn, on the 12th. October 1980. On April 25th 2005 another milestone was reached when a new floodlit all-weather playing pitch was opened on an additional 6 acres (24,000 m2) of land that the club purchased.
The club has 3 pitches at present, two full size senior pitches and a juvenile pitch. After major work which began in 2011 and was completed in 2013 all pitches were upgraded to all-weather standard. We can now claim to have the best pitch complex in Co. Longford. Pitches may be accessed in all weather conditions as the entire complex is serviced by concrete footpaths. Each pitch has a covered stand for the safety and comfort of patrons and the stand on our main pitch has wheelchair access. Two of the pitches are floodlit.
The club complex includes:
- Bar facilities
- Function room
- General Meeting room
- 5 changing rooms with shower facilities
- Referee changing room
- Team meeting room
- Team Storage Rooms
- Treatment room
- Public toilets with wheelchair access
The club also provides extensive parking facilities.
