All Ireland Champions

Published in Ladies Football, News

All Ireland Champions!! Our ladies squad reached the pinnacle of club football when they won the All Ireland Intermediate club final in Croke park on Saturday afternoon last. Up against a very good Mullinahone team, they set about taking the game to their opponents and in a marvellous performance of free flowing football they cemented their place in the history books with a comprehensive 4-11 to 2-08 win. The acorn for this win was sown in 2008 when the club was reformed and was built slowly from the bottom up with championship wins in U12(3), U14(5), U16(3), Minor(6), Junior, Intermediate & Senior(4) to lead to a team with a blend of youth and experience built up over the years to the ultimate goal. We would like the thank all the girls and ladies who have turned out for the club over the years along with the mentors and officials who led the way. Massive congratulations to the Ladies themselves who are a unique bunch along with their mentors Conor, Bryan & Seanie and the whole backroom team who brought home the Longford, Leinster and All Ireland trophies to Slashers this year. The fourth goal scored on Saturday will certainly go down as one of the best team goals ever scored in Croke Park  and just showcased what kind of football this team can play. They gave all Slashers and county fans much enjoyment throughout the season and will go down as history makers in Longford folklore. Slashers Abú.
