Underage Football Club Notes – 1st September 2014

Minors

Our minors got their championship campaign off to the perfect start with a 5-10 to 0-10 win over a Ballymahon/Kenagh/Forgney/Moydow amalgamation in Slashers on Friday last. We held a 2-5 to 0-6 lead at half time thanks to goals from Robert Clarke and Sean Costello. After a sluggish start, the boys in blue played some lovely flowing football. Slashers dominated the third quarter without showing it on the scoreboard, but goals from Clarke, Ben Ryan and Rory O'Brien wrapped up a comfortable win. Both keepers excelled in wet and windy conditions while our defense tackled hard all through and made it difficult for the opposition. Cian Kavanagh had a superb game in midfield, giving us extra punch in this vital sector. Up front, our passing was excellent and some passages of play were exciting to watch. We lost key players Hugo Carey and Liam Barry to injury and we will be hoping to have both players back for our next game against Western Gaels in the Grattens GAA grounds at 7 on Wednesday. All support appreciated next Wednesday.

Under 12

Our under 12 squad played twice this past week in the Longford league, defeating Killoe by 3 points and beating Ardagh on a scoreline of 3-5 to 1-4. Well done to all involved. Next up is Granard on Thursday evening.

Training

Training for our under 10 team continues every Thursday at 6pm. We have 3 floodlit blitzes left to be held over the coming weeks, and we need a big attendance at training every night.

 All Ireland ticket draw

Finally we urge all our members and players to make a big push to sell lines for our All Ireland ticket draw. After the thrilling semi-finals over the past weekend, the tickets are sure to be much sought after. We thank all who have supported the draw so far and ask as many people as possible to support same. Lines can be bought from Minor Club members, and will be available throughout the Town in the coming days.
