Senior team gather Flipeadóirí Longfoirt seniors gathered recently to look ahead to the new year and reconnect with team manager Eugene McCormack and his backroom team. Heartening to see the high turnout so soon after Christmas which shows the intent of the players on the night, especially the more seasoned players who have already won championships. Refreshing also to see the number of younger players eager to join the senior squad and gain experience and game time and they were warmly welcomed by team manager and players alike. To win any championship game in the height of summer will take a big panel of quality players and building on the progress of the team in 2016, improvements in players at all levels will assist in bringing the team closer to the finish line in 2017. Players have already begun useful gym sessions in the club based around progression that will certainly be valuable to a player preseason fitness. All players are invited to join the sessions either on  individual basis or group times which are available from team captain. A training schedule will be issued shortly and players who may have dropped off the scene for work or other reasons are invited to rejoin and enjoy pre-season sessions once again in the club. In the heat of battle in August or September, going into the last 10 minutes of a championship game and down by two points, we are likely to depend on the player who committed solidly in January or February to dig out a victory.
