LONGFORD SLASHERS Senior Club Notes

Our 2014 Senior Championship campaign commences on this Saturday evening 19th. July when we play Fr. Manning Gaels in Round 1 at Emmett Park at the early time of 6-30 pm. There is no doubt but this is a very stiff test to start our efford to retain the Sean Connolly Cup and only a big efford will suffice.

A.C.L. Div. 1

Our seniors suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Dromard at Pairc na nGael on Saturday evening last. They were well in the game up to half-time but just were not good enough in the second half. This was a top of the table clash and defeat moves us down the table to 4th. place on same points as 4 other clubs. Our next league game is on Friday Aug. 1st. V Clonguish at Michael Fay Park.

A.C.L. Div. 3

Our Juniors are lying 2nd in the league table and as a result are through to the league semi- final, which is scheduled for w/e 27th July with the final down for w/e August 4th. This squad have had great success to date and have a real opportunity to reach the final and possible honours.

Proposed Marathon. in aid of St. Vincent de Paul

Joe Crowley, from Co. Kerry, currently a delegate on the Munster Council, is completing 32 'walking' marathons in 32 counties over 16 week-ends, all in aid of the St. Vincent de Paul society. He will attempt the 'longford 'marathon on next Sunday, July 20th, commencing 9-30am and is basing himself at our clubhouse. The marathon will total 42.19 klms.
