Minors victory V Killoe

Flipadeóirí Longford minor team are through to the championship semi final by virtue of a 3-10 to 2-10 win over Killoe. Two first half goals from Rory O'Brien and a third goal midway through the second half from the boot of Liam Barry saw us home by 3 points. There were stellar defensive performances from Ronan Sheahan, Hugo Carey, Robbie O'Connell, Eoin Bartley and substitute Paddy Duggan while Sean Costello and Robert Clarke scored important second half points to help us turn a two point halftime deficit into a 3 point win. Next up is a semi final meeting with championship favourites Northern Gaels. This doubled up as a league shield semi final and we will now play either Western Gaels or Colmcille in the final. Well done to all concerned.

u14 get 2nd bite

Our under 14s were in county final action against Killoe on 19 Sept, and produced a real gutsy performance, pulling the game out of the fire with a great point to level the match late on. It was a great match which neither team deserved to lose. The replay is due to take place on Saturday 27 Sep at 2.30. All support appreciated and welcome.

u12

On 18 sep last our under 12's made it through to the League Final after an epic contest with a super Clonguish team on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-09. The game was full of fabulous football and was a credit to both teams, with Slashers producing a display of courage, brilliant defending and outstanding scores that left them deserving winners in the end. Ahead by 3 points after 5 minutes (through Dean Coughlan, Ronan Sheahan and Miroslav Cureja) we were 4 behind at halftime, after a brilliant first half display by Clonguish (3 brilliant Stevie O'Brien saves kept us in the game in that period). A Clonguish point just after the interval left us 5 behind and in real trouble. At this point our lads showed  true blue and put in a display that was out of the top drawer. Man of the match Ronan Sheahan tormented the Clonguish defence to notch 1-04 (his goal was the game changer) and Miroslav Cureja chipped in with 4 fabulous points. Ben Lynn moved from full back to Midfield and scored 2 vital points. All the while our defence remained strong, with Danny Ogboko, Sean Morgan and Donal Sheahan all outstanding. Stevie O'Brien continued his excellent form and his kick outs created many scores as he launched them to the the half forward line. There were many other super performances- John Murray, Cian McGuinness, Mairtin Kenny, Dean Wykes, Stephen Murray, Micheal Mulcahy and Liam Sloane all played their hearts out to secure the win. Well done to everyone. The Final will be against Shannon Gaels on 27 sept so best of luck to this squad who are a great bunch of lads...bua leis an láidir.
