Ladies Win Senior Title

Longford Slashers 4-09 Clonguish 2-09 Our ladies team became senior county champions with a marvellous performance against Clonguish on Saturday afternoon last. Played in damp and windy condition, the ladies adapted very well and took the game to Clonguish. They were a few points ahead when Clonguish struck for a goal and a couple of points coming up to half time to put them in the lead before a well struck Emily Reilly goal and a opportunistic Jessica Barry goal put us 2 points ahead at half time. A great all round 2nd half performance which included a penalty by Jessica Barry and a well taken Kara Shannon goal led to a 6 point win by 4-09 to 2-09. It was a great sight to see captain Aishling Cosgrove lift the trophy after the final whistle and give the big Slashers support lots to cheer about. Congratulations to all the players on this magnificent achievement of winning the Junior, Intermediate and Senior titles in the last 3 years. This was achieved with the development of players over a number of years from U10 up in the club and is testament to the work put in by the coaches and management at underage level. Thanks to Senior team management Conor Clarke, Brian Farrell and Daniel Monks, Physio Muireann Mulcahy and all the support staff that help out in any way in bringing the team to the pinnacle of Longford Ladies football. The season continues for this fine squad when they play in the Intermediate Leinster championship where they take on Wexford champions Shelmalier on Saturday 5th October at the Wexford venue at 2pm. We hope our supporters will make the journey down to Wexford to cheer on the ladies on their Leinster journey. Slashers abu.
