Ladies Football Club Notes 26th October 2014

Published in Ladies Football, News

Minor Pride of place this week goes to our minor team who won the championship in style on Sunday to retain their title. Played in very wet and windy conditions our girls adapted very well to settle into the game early. Playing with the wind in the first half, after a few wides in the first few minutes, we got two quick goals to settle the nerves. Up against a very strong St. Helen's team, our girls kept the pressure on and using the wind in our favor, were 5-02 to 0-01 up at half time. Knowing we would be up against it in the second half, the girls put in a fabulous performance and took the game to St. Helens all through this half to end up very convincing winners by 9-09 to 0-03. Every one of the 15 girls played their hearts out on the day and they were complemented by the use of our subs which showed the strength in depth of this squad. The football played by this team on the day was probably one of the best displays of stylish and whole hearted football by any Slashers team. Well done to all the girls and their mentors Aiden, Eamonn, Padraig, Mark, Brian and Antoinette. The squad on the day were, Adrienne Mulligan, Jessica Barry, Emer Casey, Gemma Reilly, Laura Kenny, Ciara Flynn, Shelley Gray, Lisa Nolan, Claire Farrell (capt), Mary Sloane, Sarah O' Boyle, Aoife O' Brien, Kyana Lee, Eimear O' Brien, Orlaith O' Brien, Leah Farrell, Aine Barry, Zena Coyle, Tara Nevin, Eilis Kenny, Niamh Smith, Elaine Murphy & Louisa Duggan.
