Hurling Club Notes – 15th August 2014

Championship

Our championship aspirations took a bit of a setback when our Seniors lost their first game since March against Clonguish last Monday week. The match, played in Devine Park, was a high octane affair and was delicately poised at 17 points apiece entering the final few minutes. Clonguish maestro, Joe O'Brien, then pounced for a goal to break Sky Blue hearts and there wasn't enough time left to salvage the result of what had been a riveting contest throughout with the lead changing hands on numerous occasions. We now need a result against Wolfe Tones in the next round to get our hopes back on track. A few days later we recorded yet another league victory in the Cavan Four County League against Manorhamilton to take some consolation. We now meet Lisbellaw next Monday in the competition semi-final.

Juveniles

Our Juveniles also suffered disappointment when losing the U16 County Hurling Final which was played in Slashers on Saturday. Despite being understrength on the day, the lads battled manfully throughout but couldn't get the lucky break for a goal they needed to reduce the half-time deficit. Final score: Wolfe Tones 2-7 Slashers 0-5 Our U12s had a great battle this Wednesday evening and came out on top against a fancied Roscommon Gaels side in a challenge match. Our U13s are playing the final blitz in the Cavan series next Wednesday and there is underage training this Saturday at 11am.
