County Hurling Final this Saturday

Published in Hurling Club, News

This Saturday is a very big day for the club as our seniors line out for the County Senior Hurling Final for the first time since 2007. We take on the reigning champions and favourites Wolfe Tones who know all about winning on these occasions. Despite coming with a very young team, we have prepared as well as possible and hope to claim our first County Title since 2001. Our juveniles also face the same opposition in the U16 Final which acts as curtain-raiser to the main event. Your support on the day would be greatly appreciated.
Last Saturday afternoon our Minors suffered a narrow but disappointing defeat in the Westmeath 13-a-side championship in Athlone. Missing a couple of players we also had two players returning to the squad. However, a soft goal conceded just before halftime was a hammer blow. The lads fought back gamely in the second half but just couldn't bridge the gap. Final score: Southern Gaels 1-13 Slashers 1-11.
Our U11s had better luck the same day in accounting for a decent Carrick-on-Shannon team in a competitive challenge match. They now meet Wolfe Tones in the U11 Final this Saturday after the Mostrim side were impressive winners over Clonguish. Meanwhile our U8s had a great morning in Kenagh as Longford's newest hurling club hosted their first ever blitz. Well done to all.
