Colmcille prevail on third attempt

Never give up

Colmcille came up winners against Flipeadóirí Longfort on 19 Nov at Emmet Óg pitch on a night when a deluge fell just before the start of the game and for much of the 1st half. Slashers opened the scoring with an Andrew Dalton (C) free which was leveled quickly by Colmcille. Slashers were finding conditions tough and the lighter team were not able to apply their normal fast passing game in the greasy conditions after a number of them had starred for St Mels earlier in day beating St Pats of Navan. Colmcille got the vital score in the first half with a goal that came from a turn over in the Slashers forward line. All the breaking ball at mid-field seemed to be going to Colmcille where Barry McKeon was impressive. Slashers toiled through Shane Rodgers and Adrian Duffy who charged forward to put over a point and Ronan Sheehan who never gives up. Cian Kavanagh gave his usual everything and stood up to the intensity. Half time score board looked a daunting 1-7 to 2 points. 2nd half proved to be  better  for Slashsers who began to show form. Colm Farrell and Andrew Kelly were showing well in the forwards but scores were a premium. Brian Walshe, Cian Kavanagh and Andrew Kelly got on the score board to keep it ticking over but Colmcille still managed to get scores at important times. An Andrew Dalton goal gave some hope of a Slashers revival but the clock was ticking and time eventually ran out on a score of 1-11 to 1-6. This is a young Slashers team that now face into the B championship semi-final next Sunday.
