Flipeadóirí Longfoirt - quarter final Perfect conditions for a championship game versus Droim Árd on Sunday in Killoe saw a real contest where Slashers were a point up at the break and Droim Árd shaded it by a point in the end. Both teams were well matched and went into the game with all at stake. Flipeadóirí Longfoirt had to field without certain starters Garret Ghee and Mark Diffley who had an eye injury from the previous drawn game. Colm Farrell had one of his finest outings in the sky blue jersey making two magnificent saves that were definite goal chances and his kick out found a Slashers man  almost always. Droim Árd opened the scoring and went two points up before Colin Smith opened the Slashers account with a well taken free. Trevor Clendenning who has been a consistent scorer in the championship scored from play and leveled the game. The game continued nip n tuck in that half with Colin Smith nailing two more points. Andrew Dalton then hit two in a row in a purple patch for Slashers. A well contested kick out from Droim Árd just before the break was cleanly caught by Michael Brady who delivered the perfect pass to Trevor Clendenning resulted in a great point allowing Slashers in at the break one point ahead 7pts - 6pts. On the turnover Paul Kelly opened with a good point which seemed to be a shift i the right direction. Droim Árd fought back and leveled again. Another free from Colin Smith kepth the sky blues in the hunt followed by a point from Mark Smith who came in at half time for an injured Niall Mulligan. Scores were being traded now one for one and when Dermot Brady broke forward for a fisted point it looked as if it would be a Slashers day. Another point from Colin Smith brought the game to a 12 pt score all but it was the opposition who managed to get that vital winner at the end. Slashers did launch a final attack through a great long range shot into the full forward line by Peter Foy that was fielded by Mark Smith. As Mark turned for goal it looked like a certain free but was not given and the game went to Droim Árd Slashers have worked hard all year but have been hit at the wrong time with injuries to key players.
